    Local Financial Resources and Support

    Citrus Aid Cancer Foundation

    Citrus Aid Cancer Foundation, located at RBOI’s Lecanto office, is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, providing quality-of-life help and services to cancer patients, survivors, and their caregivers in Citrus County. Services include referral to assistance programs, help with transportation to and from cancer treatments, help obtaining medication, help with screening, and emotional and financial support.

    HUGS (Heartfelt Unconditional Giving)

    HUGs (Heartfelt Unconditional Giving) is dedicated to helping people in Marion County affected by cancer. The organization supports the Cancer Alliance of Marion County and the HUGs for Heroes financial assistance program. HUGs is a local nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that provides financial assistance for living expenses during cancer treatment for those in need.

    Cancer Care

    Cancer Care provides educational information along with online and telephone support. New patients or patients who have recurring cancer after two years or more are also eligible for $125 travel grants and co-pay assistance programs.     Patient Advocate Foundation’s Co-Pay Relief Program

    Patient Advocate Foundation’s Co-Pay Relief Program provides direct financial support to underinsured patients currently going through chemotherapy, including those with Medicare and Medicaid. Callers are routed depending on the type of cancer for which they are being treated. Call 1-866-512-3861 for more info.

    21st Century CARE

    21st Century CARE provides patients financial assistance for incidental expenses related to active cancer treatments. If eligible, services/funds available can include gas, childcare, support meetings, cosmetic aide, hygiene products, respite service, food during treatment, medical supplies, cancer related supplies and services.     Elder Options of North Central Florida

    Elder Options of North Central Florida includes financial assistance among resources that also include assistance with Medicare and Medicaid, help with nutrition and transportation, resources for persons with disabilities, resources for caregivers, and more. The free SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) program provides trained volunteer counselors to help seniors and the disabled, and their families and caregivers, choose and enroll in health insurance and prescription assistance plans. These neutral counselors are not affiliated with any insurer.

    The American Cancer Society also provides free transportation to and from cancer treatment through its Road to Recovery program.

    The Breast Cancer Charities Help Now Fund Quarterly Grant

    The Breast Cancer Charities Help Now Fund Quarterly Grant is a program offered to breast cancer patients currently in active treatment. Grants range in values of up to $5,000 based on the availability of funds and the needs of the applicant. The grants assist with rent or mortgage payments, utility bills, cell phone bills, and car payments. Applications are accepted only at certain times of the year.     Patient Advocate Foundation’s Colorectal CareLine

    Patient Advocate Foundation’s Colorectal CareLine provides assistance with resolving a broad variety of patient and caregiver concerns including (1) access to care (e.g., assistance in obtaining prior authorization approvals, second opinions, insurance appeals, insurance plan review); (2) cost of care (e.g., co-pay assistance, premium assistance); (3) cost of living expenses (e.g., rent, utility, transportation, food/nutrition assistance programs);(4) safety net program support (e.g., SSDI, LIS, Extra Help enrollment assistance); and (5) employment-related issues (e.g., FMLA, short-term and long-term disability).     Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

    Leukemia & Lymphoma Society offers several financial assistance programs. The Patient Aid Program awards a $100 stipend to eligible patients in active treatment. The Susan Lang Pay-It-Forward Patient Travel Assistance Program assists with ground transportation, air travel, and lodging related expenses. The Urgent Need Program provides varied financial assistance to pediatric and young adult blood cancer patients or adult blood cancer patients enrolled in clinical trials.     C.L.I.M.B (Children’s Lives Include Moments of Bravery) is a program developed specifically to support the emotional needs of children with a parent or caregiver who has cancer.
