This week, the Commissioners were joined by Amy Roberts,  RBOI & Chair of the Cancer Alliance of Marion County to proclaimed November as Lung Cancer Awareness Month.

Currently, only 2.5% of high-risk individuals in Marion County, FL, and just 3% across Florida, are utilizing annual screenings.

By raising awareness, we aim to make a positive impact and save lives. Encourage those at risk to get screened today. Together, we can make a difference.

💡 What you can do:
• Know the risk factors: Smoking, exposure to secondhand smoke, and radon can increase the risk of lung cancer, but it can affect non-smokers too.

• Get screened: Early detection through screening can improve outcomes, especially for high-risk individuals.

• Support research: Advancements in treatment are making a difference. Funding and advocacy are key to saving lives.

Many national, state, and local organizations and coalitions, including the Cancer Alliance of Marion County, American Cancer Society, Marion County Medical Society, Robert Boissoneault Oncology Institute, HUG’s, HCA Florida Ocala, AdventHealth Ocala, Radiology Associates of Ocala, Florida Department of Health Marion County, Tobacco Free Partnership of Marion County, Hospice of Marion County, Empath Health, Heart of Florida Health Centers and Langley Health Services are collectively expanding awareness of this life saving screening test.

Let’s unite to raise awareness and work toward a future where fewer lives are lost to lung cancer.

Insurance now pays for routine screenings for those at high risk decreasing mortality from Lung cancer by 20 Percent.
